    Are the colours you used, waterbased? Bc I saw another DIY limewash project, but she dipped the paint brush in water and then in paint every single time…btw the finished look is amazing:)

    Smaller boards work better. Easier to install, less issues with movement and any deformation/defects becomes less apparent or problematic (depending on the wood species and environment) Also softwoods or fragile hardwoods work better in an parquet style because they become less prone to lifting up or one board going bad and making you remove half the floor or it entirely.

    • @celeste-236
      @celeste-236 18 днів тому

      Sorry, user-wy5ch2xc8z , but design wise that’s a big “no” for both suggestions. The large boards (and the finish) they chose really look great.

    • @TheMerrythought
      @TheMerrythought 13 днів тому

      Like we mentioned in the video, we went with pine, in this size, because it matched the rest of the flooring in the upstairs of our house. We had no trouble with installing these. And our other flooring is laid out in the same pattern, and is 200 years old, with no boards lifting or needing to remove any, so I'd say we're good with it lasting this way! 🙂

    I really love the warmth and dimension this paint treatment adds. Can you tell me how much paint it took to complete a room and whether your base coat was a primer, or 1-2 coats of finish paint? I’m trying to muster the courage to try this

    • @TheMerrythought
      @TheMerrythought 13 днів тому

      Hi. Sorry for the delay in responding. The base coat had primer and 1 coat of white paint (Sherwin Williams Alabaster), just because that's what we had in there before we tried this technique. We used 1 quart of each color to do the faux limewash technique - it will depend on your room size how much of that you'll need. Hope that helps and good luck doing it. I'm really happy with ours!

    2 cups are equal to abt 480ml in cooking. Your cup is so small so you are giving wrong advise.

    This is very pretty. I’m definitely doing this in my living room. Keep an eye on the bathroom though since the finish is matte in a place that has more moisture than the rest of the house. If your walls start to sweat when you take hot showers keep an eye out for possible water damage. It could take years to set in but it depends on how long your showers are lol.

    Any thoughts on incorporating an ice maker on the door

    • @TheMerrythought
      @TheMerrythought 13 днів тому

      It would depend on your water dispenser, if it stuck out from the fridge or was flush with the door. If it's flush with the door, you would be able to do this with a cut out. Putting a trim molding around the cut out would help give it a prettier/more finished look. So on ours, I would have made it match the shaker style molding we have around the panel doors.

    Can you share the depth of your fridge and the depth of the cabinet you installed it in? I keep finding fridges that are deeper than standard depth counters, even though they’re “counter depth”. Wonderful explanation!

    • @TheMerrythought
      @TheMerrythought 13 днів тому

      Our fridge cabinet measures 24-3/4" deep. However, our fridge is pushed back into the room behind it. So that's how we were able to make our cabinet depth shorter than the depth of our fridge. Our fridge is 33" deep.

    Thank you! I think this is probably one of the more high-quality finishes I have seen, and I think it is because the colours chosen are much more subtle in contrast. I have seen loads of Faux Limewash videos but I still get the feeling it just sort of looks like a bad paint job rather than a natural limewash effect. The real deal seems far far too expensive for me right now, so willing to give your method a try :)

    • @TheMerrythought
      @TheMerrythought Місяць тому

    Curious for an update, how has the paint held up?

    • @TheMerrythought
      @TheMerrythought Місяць тому

      The one coat of paint held up well for 3 seasons. It was ready for a touch up by season 4. We did end up taking our pool down though, our kids just weren't using it enough to make it worth all the work. (They're swimmers, but need a really big pool for practice). But I would say it holds up really well, and you'd just need to touch up the paint every so often, depending how chipped the paint gets on your pool. We did a year one year update blog post that you can see here: themerrythought.com/diy/painted-swimming-pool-how-its-holding-up-one-year-later/
